Before moving the fully loaded cart, make sure all of the items are stable and placed properly on each shelf level. All of the equipment loaded onto the cart should fit properly on the cart and not hang off or obstruct the range of motion of the person moving the cart to the destination.

Any items that seem in danger of falling should be moved to a safer spot on the cart or secured to the cart using zip ties, bungee cords or rope. Check the path you will be taking to ensure the ground is dry, smooth and free of any small obstructions that may cause you to trip or fall as you move the cart.

Even small spills should be wiped up and properly dried before the cart is moved over the surface. Once all of the items are secured and the path is clear, unlock the cart wheels and proceed with moving the cart to the end destination.

Once you have moved the cart to its destination, there are safety precautions to consider at the time of unloading to keep the entire journey free of injury. Lock the cart wheels to ensure that the cart does not move or slip while unloading.

Again, ensure that proper lifting techniques are used while items are being unloaded from the cart. Once all of the items have been removed from the cart, place it in a safe area until it is needed again and engage the brakes to ensure that it will not roll away from the place where you have put it.

With the proper safety precautions in place to protect workers while using a cart to move items, your workforce can stay injury free and productive for many years to come. If taken care of properly, a good quality utility cart can last for quite a long time.
